Do you ever wonder why when we are walking with God and growing in our faith we face such trials? Why me, you may ask? When God are perfectly made in my image!

Trials: Designed by God to help us grow to be more like Him.

When we are going through trials we need to remember that God uses everything for good.  Even in the middle of the trial when we are asking ourselves why me!? When what we should be doing is drawing closer to Him and asking how to use this trial to teach others.  When we are chosen by God to go through these trials we need to think of as being placed in a new position to serve. When we get promoted to a new position at work its because we are ready and prepared for the challenge to make a difference with the other employees or the division we are working in. Its the same in life.  Treat your trials as God calling you to a higher position. People are watching you, and you will be given a different type of strength that others don't have during your trial so you can be the one that shines His awesome Glory. In result of that you impact the people around you. This life is very short, we need to welcome trials because it lets us know that God is always working within our lives to bring us closer to home. "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him." James 1:12

I often find myself saying to my oldest daughter "just do the work!" If you want a different outcome then you have to do the work to get there. In many of my life experiences I have struggled and found this to be great advice for me personally. For example, if you want to play a sport, or get to a higher level within the sport you already play then you need to seek out that direction on how and "just do the work."
This same logic is placed on us when we become followers of Jesus. He calls us in to send us out. We seek Him for a better understanding on our lives, only to have Him teach us about who He is. When we learn about who Christ is and do the work, we learn who we are and where the needs are. God says there is a big harvest with few workers. What are you spending most of your time working on? Are you seeking Him and asking where the work is needed or are you working on a worldly crown that doesn't last.

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that wont last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize."
1 Corinthians 9:24-27

If I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt who my Savior is, what am I doing about it? Where is my sense of urgency for the others around me? I love the part where Penn says, how much do I have to hate someone to not tell them that everlasting life is available to them!

God WOD 2/1/2015

A couple weeks ago with the Philia bible study we were discussing the importance and seriousness of the commandment "Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy"  Of course the first thing we did was see what God had to say about it in the Bible, because after all these are His laws and He created them for us.  Today there is much debate over this commandment and what it truly is asking us to do.  For many of us this commandment is hard simply because society as a whole doesn't make it easy. We have practice for our kids sports, we have to get our work week prepared with groceries, food planning and washing clothes, some of us have to work, the list goes on......The important question is: Do you observe the day in any significant way? Whether Saturday or Sunday; whether you cease all work or are joyfully active in the service of Jesus; Do you take this requirement seriously? That you must obey this commandment is non-negotiable. How you obey it is a matter you must settle with God as you study His will in the Bible.  He gave this day to us not only as a gift for rest but to remember what He has done for us.
As I sit here and watch the snow fall with many activities pending and a couple conversations of panic because I cant get this or that done because of the weather or my kids may not have school tomorrow.  I stop myself and remind myself that I've had a stressful week (I'm sure you all have too) and the snow will melt, and my kids will go back to school, and there is warm weather in the future.....I think ;)  But today I can stay in my sweats, play with my kids while they're still kids, and watch the game. Having life on hold for a day is a day to thank God for all He provides......and He gives this to us each week! How awesome is that!!!! Most of all, I have a God that promises me tomorrow and that He's got this!  He has overcome the world! So enjoy His gift of this beautiful snow, thank Him, remember Him, and go play.....because tomorrow you have to be one with society again!

"If anyone thinks they are something they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load."
Galatians 6:3-5

Its MAX out week!!!!! This is an exciting time for the Philia family.  Its when we get to test out all our hard work over the past year.  Its also a time when we get to put those two beautiful letters in our WOD books (PR). What's the definition of PR anyway?  Well lets start with why we even have a MAX out week.  One of the important reasons is so you can personally see how far you have come since the day you were brave enough to toe the bay doors not knowing what an AMRAP was. In addition, your PR may not even be more weight than you lifted last time but it might be the difference of a really ugly lift to a now beautifully executed lift from start to finish.....that's a PR!  So when your cheering on your boxmates makes sure you are cheering them on for what's in their WOD books, not so you can determine how the rest of your day is going to go!
